This very special little treasure was likely a souvenir from Germany. The front is engraved "Andenken" (which means "souvenir" or "memory" in German) and the letters "AP."
The back is engraved "1860"!
Although it is unmarked, this piece tests as solid silver. I am unsure of its original intended use, but it is the size of a pillbox or small snuff box.
Inside the lid there is a decoration of silver paper and velvet.
It would make a wonderful gift.

Very good condition with minor surface wear due to age. Hinges function properly, book opens and closes nicely.
