1900s-1910s French Jet Collar Necklace
1900s-1910s French Jet Collar Necklace

French jet was made to imitate real jet (much of which came from Whitby, so you'll often see it referred to as Whitby jet) during the Victorian era and into the early 20th century.
French jet is made from glass, unlike its namesake, which is a type of compressed, fossilized wood similar in some ways to coal. Although it was originally made as a more affordable alternative to jet, many French jet pieces are now highly sought after and prized in their own right.
This exquisite piece features unusually shaped beads that lay flat against the collar in a stunning display. It is very striking when worn. It likely dates from around the early 1900s to 1910s, though it could be slightly older (with a different clasp perhaps added a bit later).
+++ Measurements +++
Necklace measures 17.5" total in length and the beads are .75" wide.
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall with some surface wear and tiny chips to the beads.
