These lovely dresses, often mis-labeled now as "tea dresses" were called lingerie dresses or lingerie gowns during the era due to the fine cottons and lace used to make them.
You will also see these dresses called "lawn" dresses, which isn't necessarily incorrect. Lawn is a type of smooth, high thread count cotton (it has nothing to do with parading about a lawn at a garden party).
This particular dress doesn't have quite as smooth of a texture as a dress made of cotton lawn.
