Lovely French Jet (black glass) "crepe" earrings, possibly worn for mourning, circa 1889. Second to last photo shows a "Busiest House in America" catalog page with the exact earrings! (available on archive.org)
Crepe (also called crape) refers to a type of rough textured fabric often used in mourning clothing and veils during the Victorian era. The texture of these earrings is meant to mimic that look.
Gold filled backs and ear wires.
