Beautiful silver plated Mizpah locket circa mid 19th century.

Mizpah jewelry became popular during the Victorian era and was often given to a loved one who was going to be absent, as a token of remembrance and emotional connection, similar to forget-me-not jewelry.

The word Mizpah is taken from the Bible (Genesis 31:49, “And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another”) and means “watchtower” in Hebrew.

Chain in last photo is not included with this listing. Listing is for the locket only.
