Beautiful hand painted folio or blotter book with mother of pearl inlay circa the mid-19th century.
It has a silk rope with tassels and is lined with mauve faille silk. Inside there is a sheet of fine watermarked paper (blank, unused).
This would have been a staple on any Victorian era desk in the days of dip pens. It could now be used as a small folio to hold keepsakes or as a notebook (add your own paper!)
Included are two checks from 1845 and 1850 featuring beautiful handwriting for display or inspiration.

Lovely condition overall for its age with the only real flaws being some paint loss and minor crazing in the lacquer. The silk lining inside is in fine condition with one small area that is slightly discolored with a small scratch underneath. The silk rope and tassels are also in good condition with minor wear. See photos for best description of condition.
