From my personal collection, this bracelet is incredibly special and unique--and it is really difficult to let this piece go!
Circa mid-19th century, around 1850s-1860s, it is gold filled with beautiful, intricate black enamel decoration. It is a hinged cuff bracelet with a locket that opens to reveal a portrait of a man. On the inside of the bracelet is a glass covered locket photo of a woman.
What I love about the hidden photo on the back side of the bracelet is that this would be worn touching the skin, essentially as close as physically possible to the wearer. Something about that sentiment seems so special to me.
Aside from being a visually stunning piece, this bracelet feels quite special to me. I'm not certain if it was worn as a mourning piece or as something sentimental during the lifetime of the subjects in the photograph, but I am leaning more toward mourning, due to the black enamel and the belt and buckle motif, which symbolizes eternal love, loyalty, and attachment.

Lovely condition overall with some minor age-related wear and patina. Some solder marks and small hairline cracks on the backside (nothing affecting the integrity of the bracelet), and some darkening to the gold fill. There was a safety chain at one time which has not been lost. Clasp is secure. Inside the locket there is some strange darkening and residue on the interior of the lid. I am not sure what this is.
