Wonderfully charming brooch circa the turn of the century, likely around 1890s to 1900s. The brooch depicts a hand holding a small tennis racket with a ball in the center.
Due to the size/scale of the racket and ball as compared to the hand, it is possibly representative of some other kind of similar sport, but I'm not sure.
It is made of thermoplastic (likely Vulcante), a material that softens and is moldable when heated. Thermoplastics such as Vulcanite and gutta-percha were popular during the Victorian era and often used in jewelry and accessories to simulate the more expensive jet.
