Stunning Victorian 15k pearl moon brooch circa 1890s to early 1900s. I have never seen one quite so intricate! With three rows of graduated pearls, a scalloped edge, and a deep, exaggerated curve, it is truly a statement piece.
The points of a crescent are also called its horns, and this shape of crescent moon accentuates that resemblance. It is often associated with the Greek goddess Artemis and her Roman counterpart Diana, goddess of the hunt, who is depicted commonly with an upturned crescent moon on her head, worn as a diadem, a symbol of feminine beauty, power, and wisdom. The sign of the horns is also a symbol of protection against the evil eye.
Marked 15ct and tested.
Safety clasp has been added at some point in place of the original c-clasp.
